Difficulty since 2009, and Nodes & releases

· Data Desk

Mining now draws the difficulty of every retarget since 2009, computed from each period's header bits and recomputed by the consensus rule. Network gains a Nodes & releases page: the software reachable nodes report, from KIT's monitor (CC BY 4.0), counted over every connected peer, with those whose connection opened within 24 hours beside it; the Bitcoin Core release lines still maintained and the security advisories, from bitcoincore.org; and the Knots releases, from its GitHub feed. Holdings re-sums El Salvador's disclosed wallet on chain, block by block, beside the figure the claims floor counts for it. The claim that difficulty is in its second-longest stretch without a new high now carries a chart of every stretch since 2009. Each is a dated snapshot that names the block and the day it was read through, and none uses a price; each reader will update daily once it passes its review. Four more charts are built and not yet shown: hashprice at difficulty and the fees' share of the claimed reward for each 2,016-block period, on Mining, and who found the blocks period by period and the empty blocks, on Pools. They are drawn from the Gazette's block ledger of rewards, fees and pool labels, which starts at the period that holds the 2020 halving and is not yet level with the chain. They appear, with the ledger's download, when it is; until then the register on the method page says how far the ledger has been read.
